17 Adsense Optimized Wordpress Themes to Maximize your Contextual Ad Earnings

Adsense WordPress template.aprrof.wordpress.com

When I first started Dosh Dosh, I decided to use an Adsense Wordpress template that was designed with the primary goal of maximizing ad earnings. I wanted a Wordpress theme with distinct ad blocks so I can easily blend contextual or other types of affiliate ads alongside my main content.

As you probably know, effective ad placement is critical if you plan to make any significant amounts of money through Google Adsense or other contextual ad systems.

Using a blog template with distinct ad blocks and optimized ad placements will very likely help you increase your Click through rates and affiliate conversions. These customized blog designs are also known as Adsense Ready themes.

How are Adsense Ready Themes different from other blog templates?

How are Adsense Ready Themes different from other blog templates.aproof.wordpress.com

A key element that is central to all Adsense Ready themes is their focus on integrating contextual ads around content. As you will notice, the ads and link units are carefully placed above, beside and below each individual post to maximize exposure and their click through potential.

Several themes will also allow you to easily place blocks of square ads within each post, which is one of the proven ways to receive the highest amount of ad clicks from the average blog visitor.

Here are some general characteristics of most Adsense Optimized themes:

  • Built in Adsense blocks for easy ad insertion.

  • Ads are active once the Adsense Publisher ID is inserted or changed

  • Optimized Ad placement, colors and types according to Google’s guidelines

  • Adsense linkunits and search are already included.

  • Search Engine Friendly. Post and category titles are used for page titles etc.

Why should I use Adsense Ready Templates?

The main reason why you should use an Adsense ready theme is convenience. You don’t have to sift through too much code and there’s no need to make major adjustments to the template’s form.

In many instances, all you need is to insert your Adsense publisher ID and you’re done. This will probably only take a few minutes, which can be a huge time and effort saver.

You can probably hack any other Wordpress template to include ads but they can be a hassle if you are unfamiliar with how to optimize your ad placement. Most of these templates are not terribly attractive but I think they are functional and their ad placement is pretty decent.

I think Adsense Ready templates are very useful when you own dozens or hundreds of niche websites which use credited feeds or free content. Niche websites with high paying keywords will be naturally more profitable when you use templates with optimized ad placements.

Dosh Dosh’s List of 18 Adsense Optimized Wordpress Themes

Dosh Dosh’s List of 18 Adsense Optimized WordPress Themes.aproof.wordpress.com

As far as I know, this collection of Adsense Ready themes is the largest online. I’ve included a link to each theme’s home page and as well as a direct download link for your convenience.

Some of the screen shots were taken from the websites referenced and others were screen grabs of blogs running the specific theme. If you know of any other Adsense themes I’ve missed, leave a comment and I’ll add it to the list.

All of the themes should be compatible with Wordpress 2.0+. Feel free to check the theme’s homepage for more information on compatibility and installation.

Recommendations:

All of the themes are pretty similar in function, but I’ve had particularly high click-through rates and ad earnings with several of them and so I’ll like to highly recommend ProSense (#1) and BlueSense (#2).

This post will be updated often and I suggest that you subscribe to my blog feed in order to receive free notifications when new themes are added.

Important Misconceptions of SEO

Being an internet marketer for many years now I have heard some really out of whack misconceptions when it comes to SEO and how it helps grow a business online.

Here are some of the most important misconceptions of SEO that I think should be called out:

1. It is all Technical – Search engine optimization is only about 15-20% technical. The rest requires a marketing approach. Think about it, if you are trying to get rankings in the search engines don’t you have to put yourself in your audiences shoes and anticipate what they search for, what they read and what they want to see on your website? That requires a marketing hat.

2. Rankings Happen Quick – Search engine optimization is time and labor intensive. It takes time to get things moving in any direction. Nothing happens over night or even in one month or two.

3. I Only Need to Do It for 2 Months – SEO does not have a finish line. When you take a marketing approach to your SEO it is something you never really stop doing. Why would you stop marketing your company? You wouldn’t and that is why your SEO should never stop either. Rankings are not the only goal for search engine marketing. Building many relevant one way links is also a goal. This can only happen over time.

4. SEO Costs $39.95 – When it comes to search engine marketing you really get what you pay for. That doesn’t mean it should cost an arm and a leg but price should be appropriate to amount of work and man hours put into a certain effort in order to get it right. Prices that sound to good to be true usually are. Do you really think you can grow a business online successfully for the same cost as a cup of coffee per day?

5. SEO Software Should Do the Trick – Search engine optimization cannot be put on auto pilot by some software program. Some software’s are capable of isolating gaps or errors in your website or campaign but that still requires you as a business owner or marketer to make the necessary changes to get things moving in the right direction.

There are many misconceptions in the SEO industry and over time they should all be cleared up as the industry continues to mature and evolve. I only highlighted several that came to my mind, please feel free to share any that you may have heard.

SEO Benefits and Drawbacks

SEO has it's benefits and drawbacks. If you can wait to see results, SEO is a good process to consider. If you can take the time, work with SEO, you can have traffic for a long time. Below, you'll find a quick look at some of the benefits and drawbacks of SEO.

SEO Benefits and Drawbacks
By Vickie J. Scanlon

SEO have it's benefits and drawbacks as you will soon see. But, if you're willing to learn SEO, you may find greater rewards for your website or blow. But first, let's define SEO.

SEO Defined

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of placing specific keywords within your content, so that you can get free visitors from any and all search engines that find your site. If you do the process correctly, you can receive targeted visitors for a long time.

However, learning SEO is a daunting process. First SEO is not static, and second, Google changes the algorithms it uses in an attempt to keep webmasters honest. Thus, if you decide to jump into the SEO game you must be aware that you may have to tweak your content and keywords from time to time. But it's doeable.

So what what are the benefits and drawbacks of SEO?

SEO Benefits

1) Permanent solution to getting traffic to your site

2) Only investment is your time-not your money.

3) SEO allows you to build an online presence over time

4) SEO placement goes across all search engines

SEO Drawbacks

1) SEO is a long term process, meaning, it may take 30 days to several months to see if the keywords you chose is giving you the results you want. And, if the keywords that you chose did not give you the results you want- traffic, sign up for a newsletter, etc., you will have to repeat the process once again.

Which means, it will take another 30 days to several months to see any results. I hear the groans out there now. And the under the breathe utterance of "There's always a catch!". There is, but if you expect to do little or no work and make a lot of money, it's not going to happen.

2) Your web pages can only account for a limited number of keywords. This is what is usually called "keyword density". Many say the optimum number of specific keywords should have a density between 1 and 3 percent. Using a keyword more, would be considered keyword spamming. If you spam the search engines, they can choose to penalize your site or ban your site completely.

3) If you choose keywords that are not relevant to your website, you'll get traffic, but no buyers.

SEO can give you a long-term solution to traffic. Though SEO can get traffic to your site, it's not a given that people will buy. That's a completely different area of concern- your landing page.

Google Page Rank (PR) Update Happened Yesterday

Tonight we saw a PR update which was what is known as a major update, I have been seeing deep indexing all week which typically precedes a large update, also another sign is that they 'goog' switch of filters prior to the updates for about a week.

Looking at the first round (these normally go in a few waves) it would appear to be a little mean, this means in general I see a pattern where some go up and down but on average it would appear to be more to do with how much juice they put into the system than anything specific with the domains (given they (some) do go up and down).

Anyway this is your Happy New Year Update and I hope very much all of you enjoy the results you have worked hard on achieving over the last year.

SEO poisoners exploiting Windows Live Spaces

Security firm eSoft warns blogging platform is being used to help promote fake pharmaceutical sites

Security experts are warning that hackers are now using Microsoft’s Live Spaces blogging platform in order to push up the popularity of fraudulent online pharmaceutical sites in a strategy known as search engine poisoning.

In a posting on the Threat Center Live blog, security firm eSoft explained that cyber criminals are making use of Windows Live Spaces as well as Yahoo and Google Blogger platforms – registering accounts and then using those accounts to link to the fraudulent sites, thus pushing up the search engine ranking of those sites.

“Additionally, the spam emails now link to these fake blogs rather than directly to the pharma-fraud site in an effort to better evade spam filters that might otherwise detect the link to the fraudulent website,” the posting noted.

“Whatever the distribution method, it's clear these cybercriminals will stop at nothing and continue to evolve new ways of advertising their bogus sites.”

Search engine poisoning or blackhat SEO is becoming an increasingly popular method for cyber criminals to boost click throughs onto their fake and malicious sites and increase infection rates.

Many piggy-back on popular news stories of the time, such as the death of major celebrities like Michael Jackson, or tragic news events, in order to encourage users to click on their malicious links, which have been artificially promoted to high places in the search engine rankings by techniques such as the one outlined above.

google caffeine coming soon

As I (and many other top SEO/SEM blogs) have been reporting since mid-August, the big “Google Caffeine” major algorithm update is coming very soon. According to Matt Cutts (Google’s Head of Web Spam Department), the major Google Caffeine update will take place after the holiday season. To read Matt Cutt’s blog post about the Google Caffeine update, please visit the following link:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-caffeine-update/

In case you are interested, Mashable did an analysis of possible changes that might be part of the update back in August here:
http://mashable.com/2009/08/10/google-new-version/

Here is a very interesting video at the last Search Engine Strategies conference show with Matt Cutts about the Google Caffeine update:

Also, here is more talk from around the web about what might happen:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2355684,00.asp
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-10394059-93.html
http://videos.webpronews.com/2009/11/11/googles-caffeine-live-at-one-data-center/
http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/091110-093955
http://www.imediaconnection.com/content/25086.asp

So it looks like we are all in for some changes together. From my experience from the last 2 major Google algorithm updates (2003 and 2005/2006) I always recommend to not panic and expect major fluctuations of the Google search engine result/rankings for your website. Since this is new for everyone in the SEO world, I recommend remaining patient and to continue marketing your website and business in a white hat manner and long term you should be just fine.

Of course, I will keep you updated (as everyone will in the SEO industry) with any major updates, roll outs, etc.

Google search snippets : Jump to Link you want Now

The Google Blog announced two new features within the Google search results we have spotted earlier. The first are the anchor based links and the second are the snippet based links. Google Testing Enhanced Listings, “Pagelinks” article from back in December 2008, told us this was coming as well. Here are pictures of both, that clearly describe each:

Anchor Based Jump To Links or Sitelinks:

One line Sitelink With Anchors

Snippet Based Jump To or Sitelinks:

Google Snippet Links

Both these types of links take you to the same page of the main link, but they anchor you down or jump you to a specific point on the page. This is done using anchor links within the page source. The Google Webmaster Central Blog explains how webmasters can help gain these links in their snippets. Google explains:

First, ensure that long, multi-topic pages on your site are well-structured and broken into distinct logical sections. Second, ensure that each section has an associated anchor with a descriptive name (i.e., not just “Section 2.1″), and that your page includes a “table of contents” which links to the individual anchors. The new in-snippet links only appear for relevant queries, so you won’t see it on the results all the time — only when we think that a link to a section would be highly useful for a particular query.

As a side note, Google has also been testing what I am calling “deep sitelinks.” This is a combination of date and post data with Google Sitelinks in one snippet.

He also runs Search Engine Marketing News , a popular search blog on very advanced SEM topics. Bavajan also works for a Matrimony portal called VivahaBandhan and he can be followed on Twitter here

Traffic and Your Website

Traffic and Your Website

There are a lot of ways to get traffic to your website or blog. However, the three ways of getting traffic that have stood the test of time are linking, SEO, and Pay Per Click advertising.

Pay-Per-Click

Many have claimed that in the beginning, they utilized Pay-Per-Click advertising to bring traffic their website and money in their pocket.

The key to Pay-Per-Click advertising is that the ad or ads should be relevant to your web page/landing page. The keywords that you bid on should also be relevant to your ad and landing page.

Linking

There are paid and free methods of linking. Several of the free methods of linking is through Ezines or newsletters and Article Marketing.

Ezine Advertising - If you are thinking about putting links/ads within an ezine it is wise that the ezine has a following that has at least 500 advertisers. Remember, sales rely on the number of people you can reach. Do not blindly place your ads in ezines, it is wise to always read the fine print.

Article Marketing is a good way to get one-way links. It does take time and effort on your part, but it does bring traffic to your site-long term, especially if you place your articles in article directories.

Paid Links-With Google crackdown of the paying and selling of links among websites-I would be rather hesitate. A lot of top sites lost their page ranking due to buying of links.

SEO

SEO-Search Engine Optimization was and is a specialized process. But many webmasters are tackling the SEO process on their own. SEO is a solid way to get traffic to your website, but if you're new to the SEO game, you'll have to deal with the learning curve.

SEO - is the optimization of your web pages so that search engines will visit your site. You utilize relevant keywords, keyword phases within the body of your text, and within your meta tags. Trust me, it's a little more complicated than it sounds, but well worth learning.

Other methods that are coming on board are within the social media arena-Twitter, etc. With social media, it is only as strong as your following.

So, if you're looking for ways to build traffic to your website, don't leave out the three mainstays, SEO, linking, pay-per-click.

SEO-Is It Useless?

SEO-Is It Useless?

When I first started out on the Internet, I must say I was a little naive. I assumed that you could just set up a website and people would miraculously appear and buy. Nice thought isn't it? But truthfully, not at all realistic.

After checking my stats, day in and day out, for about a month-I realized that the only visitors I had was from "me". It was then I realized, that this website stuff was going to take work-but I didn't really know where to begin? Needless to say, it was time to do some research.

During my research I came across something called SEO (search engine optimization). It looked rather hard to do, but since my pockets were not that deep, and you could do it yourself, I thought why not try it.

What I learned, is SEO is not useless as some may say, but a rather useful tool, and it cost you nothing-if you do it yourself that is.

Raise your Business with SEO.

An online promoting company offers recommendation and guidance on different parts of internet promoting, from designing internet sites, picking content material, business themes and business trademarks. It may counsel you to use search engine optimisation ( SEO ) services which may make your internet site search engine optimised. The result has been amazing pressure on the numerous search engines to repeatedly adjust their algorithms which are key to determining the results a user will receive after conducting a search.
