What is 3GP?

The latest addition to the world of mobile communications technology is the 3G phone. These high-tech piece of telephony allows users to surf the Internet, share multimedia files, send and receive e-mails and participate in video conferences with other activities.

3G is for the 3rd Generation of short and is sometimes known as the next generation of mobile phone technology. Previous incarnations were the 1st Generation that was in analogue technology for the first time in the 1970s, and 2Introduced generation, a digital standard in the 1990s, which brought us features like SMS via mobile phone.

The new 3G standard, you can transfer data at high speeds between digital wireless phones, is possible because the technology has significantly greater bandwidth than existing standards.

This next generation of mobile technology brings with it the introduction of a new file format 3GP. This is a video format and enables multi-media streamingon 3G phones compatible and allows users to create, watch and share videos through their mobile network.

It is a multimedia container format, which means several different file types are stored together in a single file. In this case, audio, video bit rate and information which are data on the size and the transmission time of images stored together.

The 3GP format is a simplified version of the MP4 or MPEG-4 technology and its foundation was created toDecrease the amount of required bandwidth and the overall file size so they could be integrated with mobile phones.

The format was defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project, known as 3GPP, and the Third Generation Partnership Project 2 or 3GPP2. These bodies are the cooperation of several countries into a cooperation agreement with the aim of unification of mobile formats. The goal is the consistent delivery of multi-media formats via the new 3rd allowGeneration mobile networks worldwide.

There are two international standards for the 3gp file format:

3GPP - this uses the file extension .3gp and is compliant with GSM based phones.

3GPP2 - compliant with CDMA mobiles and uses the file extension .3g2.

The 3gp videos stored on mobile phones are easily transferred to a computer via USB or Bluetooth technology and are suitable for all platforms such as Linux, Mac and Windows. Media applications such as Quick Time, Media Player and RealPlayer are all playing in the position to the 3GP files.

There are many software programs available that 3GP files to other video formats such as AVI or WMV video files can be transformed so that the playback on other platforms. These and other formats can be converted to 3gp, so that they are used by 3G phones. The conversion software is widely available, often free on the Internet.

Add Most of today's 3G mobile phones can, and the creation of 3GP files, such asas well as playback and sharing functions. There may be limits of the resolution, memory, and the maximum size of files, depending on the brand and model of the phone.

Some of the newer or high-end 2G phones are playing in a position to 3GP files, as well as the latest 4G mobile phones. However, again depending on the brand and model, it may have some limitations.
