Search Engines and A User-Friendly Website

Search Engines and A User-Friendly Website
By Vickie J. Scanlon

Does your website have to be user-friendly? Yes, your website should be user-friendly for both the search engines and your visitors. As you know, without the search engines you would not have a business, because you would have little or no traffic hitting your site.

“How do I get a user-friendly site?” you ask. There are different ways in which to make it a little easier for the search engines to index your site, and thus, rewarded with traffic. Let me explain.

HTML and Dynamic Links

It is easier for search engines to index your site when it is in html. But what about dynamic links? This is always good to review and see how far the search engines have come when it comes to dynamic links.

Dynamic links can be a little troublesome for search engines. Google and some of the other search engines can handle simple dynamic links but if the dynamic links becomes long and complicated, Google more times than not will back out of page and go no further. Yahoo, suggests kindly not to even go there. Saying, the best places to use dynamic links are in directories that are not going to be indexed. Why are search engines reluctant to venture to deep into the complicated dynamic links? Because of possible bad coding, it could put their search engine at risk. Translated, it could crash.

Links-Clear Descriptive Links Important

It is wise to make your links, keyword rich for the search engines, and understandable to your users. If the user or the search engine cannot get a handle of what the web page is about, you can bet that it’s time to move on for the user, and for the search engine-a lower ranking in the search results.

As you can see, search engines will give you the most important element to a website’s possible success–your audience. If you lose the search engines, or they cannot find you, you’ll likely to see less traffic.
