The Top Five Buy Low Candidates

If you read my last post you'd have noticed that I mentioned rebuilding pieces of the calculator. Well in doing so, I also built some very new and very cool features. You will now have the availability to enter a players name into the system and it will let you know if he is a Buy Low, Sell High or Hold. Pretty neat stuff! I plan to have this rolled out by Monday evening. PLEASE NOTE: The password for access has changed, and the new password is listed on the bottom this each feed post.

So I ran through the calculator, and took a look at the overall Buy Low/Sell High scores for all the players and was so shocked at who the top 5 names were that I figured I'd report them all to you. Now the data has been updated through today so that had some impact, no doubt. Take a look, you're going to be surprised, I guarantee it!

(Scores greater than 2 represent a buy low)

1. Kevin Garnett - F - Boston Celtics
SCORE: 2.37
Across the entire universe of players, KG had the highest Buy Low score. When I saw this I wasn't wholly shocked, as he definitely has performed below his career numbers. Still KG had been coming on of late, showing solid improvement. If this guy is even remotely available for cheap, I think you have to get out there and make the move.

2. Jose Calderon - G - Toronto Raptors
SCORE: 2.35
Another pretty obvious selection here, but I'll venture further and say that while the score might not have been as high as KG's, the price is definitely lower. With Jarrett Jack playing as well as he has been, it is no doubt that owners are scared. This could be a HUGE source of VERY cheap dimes for your squad.

3. Amar'e Stoudemire - C - Phoenix Suns
SCORE: 2.34
Really? Amar'e is still on this list? Actually, in parsing through the data I noticed immediately why. Basically, even though Amar'e has shown progress and return to form, there is still so much more to gain from him that he scores top 3. There's a big return on this guy right now, so those looking to cash in some top players, keep Amar'e on your radar in return.

4. Darius Songalia - F - New Orleans Hornets
SCORE: 2.13
HAHAHAHA! I put him in here to prove a point to everyone, that I'd rather make now than sometime in the future. The calculator is going to put a score on everyone's head, this does NOT mean said player is good for your fantasy squad. It just means that it's highly likely the player will go on to perform better than he has been performing. Looks like the Calc thinks ole Darius is going to have a great second half of the season, but hardly a fantasy worthy performance.

5. Chris Paul - G - New Orleans Hornets
SCORE: 2.08
That's right, the 5th best buy low guy out there. Shocking. What's even more shocking is that the calc does recognize he is currently the best player out there, ranking him #1. Even more, when I updated the stats, his #1 lead on Lebron GREW and the calc STILL says he is a buy low candidate. Unreal, this guy is the gift that just keeps on giving. Needless to say, to everyone out there that snapped him up in December, here's more reason to smile.

Alright, I'll be around for most of the day putting the finishing touches on the Fantasy Team Analyzer (aka Secret Sauce Calculator), so hit me up with a question or comment. Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend!

  2. What up Thief. I'm still not sold on lil nate after last night but is he worth a look? He's an FA in my league and I'm holding onto Charlie V. Is CV worth the drop for lil nate. Im leaning towards keepin CV. Two for one deals have been hard to make happen in my league.

Love the white background. Keep up the good work Thief.

  3. Well, if you can find a buyer, then def sell high! He's not gonna top that point mark this season!

  4. Thief i like KG at #1 it brought some perspective that he was rolling before he was recently held out of games. I'll look to see if I can get him for cheap in my league. Thanks - looking forward to the new calc features.

My question is this. I got offered: Dwight+Westbrook+Iverson for my Bosh+Maggette+LuiosWill (Roto league). I'm not crazy about it. He really wants Bosh+Maggette from me. Can you help me piece together an offer to give him Bosh+Maggette for Dwight+ someone...it can be a 3for3 I don't mind selling high on Jason Thompson, also don't mind including David West, Parker, Felton or SJax in the deal. Any thoughts thanks!

  16. thanks for the great site! much needed for us fantasy b-ball junkies.quick question when you have time, i'm in a small 8 team h2h.kinda need steals and assists should i drop landry for felton or conley?? i have granger on the bench maybe i should just hold tight???? thanks so much......

  17. Hey Thief, do you mind doing the deleted comment one more time haha thats how i got the calculator last time

  18. where do i get this calculator thing?

    ReplyDelete
  19. My team consists of Chris Paul, Brandon Roy, Caron Butler, David West, Troy Murphy, Nene, Andrew Bynum, Manu Ginobili, Jeff Green, and Jason Terry with CDR, Allen Iverson, Mehmet Okur and an injured Danny Granger on the bench.

My starters' sauce numbers without the bench according to your spreadsheet are:
    Pts: 16.70
    Reb: 6.14
    Ast: 3.56
    Stl: 1.14
    3pm: 0.97
    Blk: 0.62

First of all, Calderon just cleared waivers in my league (they're afraid of injured players). Should I drop CDR or AI to pick him up? I know he hasn't been living up to expectations and could lose his starting job when he returns. Some other notable FAs are Carlie V, Duhon and Blake Griffin. I'm on the Griffin bandwagon but am unsure who I should drop for him, probably in a few weeks. Like I said, my league is afraid of injured players.

Also, you told me before to try to move Granger, and the guy who wants him (supposedly) is willing to give up a lot for him. His notable assets are Billups, Aldridge, David Lee, A. Randolph, Okafor, Vince Carter, Beasley, Bargnani and Marion. He's got a ton of bigs but if I pull in anyone center eligible, I'd have to ditch one of my centers since I'm at our league's four center limit. Which kind of trade should I swing? I figured I'd start with a Granger-Okur combo and go from there.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Thief!

Hey Thief, I just got Al Jefferson from that Boozer trade and I'm thinking I have a piece now to try to sway the Amare owner after I take in some of the stats.. I got Jefferson for the blocks, but I saw Amare used to block more shots back in the day.. will his block avg go back up again? Who do you like more out of the two?

  22. great post thief! it made me started thinking about acquiring KG, and I worked up a trade offer, i hope you can give me some feedback on whether it's a steal. my al harrington + mehmet okur for his KG + AK47.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Clint, INK IT!

    HomeG, boooooyahhh nice deal!!

Nhern, package granger n landry then grab felton. Danny G's injury scares me. Ask for another solid tier two player.

Will, take granger okur for billups n VC. Then drop CDR for Calderon.

DW, good lookin out player. I'd rather have Amare v. Big Al, but it's close.

Akur, it's OK, not exactly a steal.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thief that sounds good, but I'm already kind of low in rebounds and blocks, you don't think I'd need a big in return?

Hope you're having an excellent holiday weekend!

Great job on the website and the Secret Sauce calculator. You have the yahoo message boards going bananas over your great advice. In a moment this site won't be so secret anymore lol.

    I just received a 3-3 trade offer:

    My Frye+Joe Johnson+Jameer Nelson for his Felton+Pau Gasol+J.R. Smith.

    My secret sauce:

    Felton
    Redd

    J. O'neal
    Harrington
    Chalmers

    10-man H2H regular categories and also including(orebs,drebs,ftm,to,fouls,ft%, and 3pt%)

Is this a beneficial 3-3 or should I try to receive more out of the deal?

I know I can make a good steal here and I would like to cash in on a trade from his squad. I am currently 2nd in the league (with 3.5 categories behind) and the other team is 9th.

    Thanks for the great advice!

  40. sup thief...do you think its still worth it to go for kg now that he could possibly be out for a few weeks due to a hyperextended knee and will that affect him much when he gets back?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ac, I like those trades. The o/u score is a standardized score. It's a lot of math behind it, but if u understand standardized score, you'll get it.

    Christo, ;)

    Yizzie, try West

    jb, Ray Felton

cj, try a different web browser.

Jared, he is SO cheap. They're sayin 10 days max, all precautionary as the c's have a lite schedule over that time. If you inked a deal tomorrow, an it took two days to clear, you're already down to seven days. I love KG as a buy low right now.

    ReplyDelete
  42. thanks thief...one last question who do you see gaining more value as the season moves on...michael redd or allen iverson?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ooooh, I love tough questions. I would say if Redd stays healthy him, but I put the odds on a Redd injury at 50%, do I'll say AI.

  51. Pavel, I'd be starting Yi over Artest, but I'd be packaging them up and looking for a buyer. See what gets thrown your way...

neel, i like deng for KG, I like Dirk for CP3. Toss in Diaw to either if it'll help push things along. Nail one or both those down before workin on Amar'e.

    Woozy, INK IT

AL, INK IT and grab Battier out of FA

Kermit, Use the Player list to find Aldridge (the next version makes this MUCH easier), his big name gets cut off. And no, my stats are different from the season stats. There are many many factors that go into my calculations, but current season stats are 70% of it.

Lanc, walk away. He doesn't have enough value to make the deal worth it for you. Walk away bro and keep DW.

  57. KG...Can he have 17-9-3-1-1?

he is still not cheap right now

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yo Thief...

I know your big on your boy Jrich, but he's averaging around 23 minutes, Barbosa is back and his wrist. I own him and want to get rid of him, but scared i may pay for it later. Should i put some offers out there for him or ride out the tidal wave?
Prospects- Aaron Brooks, Eric Gordon and also thought about packageing him with Iggy to get CP3, and pick up Griffin

    ReplyDelete
  59. I posted earlier about trying to get Nash for Kidd and Camby, well the manager loves him or something, but I didnt want to stick with injury prone Camby so I tryed Ray Allen and Camby for D Howard and I got it, I thought that Allen was having a Big week and Howard a bad one. Did I did OK ?? I think at least Howard is a big name so its easy to move him after a big night.
Whats your opinion about Howard and hes performance levels going forvard in the season??
I think I could get Nash for him because the other guy is last in Blocks.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Woozy, I followed ya, ink itmyman

    lanc, walk away

mat, neither is great but I'd rather have TC

Wes, I like em all. You add some serious depth an that's huge. Just b careful about loading up on guys like camby whose injury prone. But I like your strategy.

    Jb, I would guess Rip.

Scola, you mean you can't get him cheap? Really? Seems like most owners r dying to deal.

Chuck, if u can get CP3, do it. But otherwise, don't panic. J is abig art of their success and he's gonna get his minutes.

Kris, great trade. That's perfect. If u don't need blocks and do need dimes or treys, then yeah go for Nash. Either way, smart trade.

  61. Thief - if you have a min could use your advice here.

Roto, KEEP 3 players at the end. 13GMs
12 cats (FGM, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, 3PT%, PTS, REB, AST, BLK, ST, TO)

I currently like my Guards with Kidd, Wade, Rondo, JNelson. I'd like to get Joe Johnson and am willing to part with Rondo for him. Do you think I need to add someone else with Rondo for JoeCool or should I just try it strait up and put in the message that your getting a young keeper that will be a top 5 PG behind CP3 and DWill for years to come, leads the league in steals, etc....

OR do you think I hold onto Rondo as a keeper and not try to shop him for JoeCool? Owner said he needs a keeper in return for Joe Johnson. He won the league last year and is a very patient and smart GM. I also know that JNelson and Rondo were part of his winning team last year.

We keep 3 at the end of the year, thus far its looking like Wade, Rondo, Bargnani...

    Thanks!

    MY TEAM:
    PG) Jason Kidd
    SG) Dwayne Wade
    G) Rajon Rondo
    SF) John Salmons
    PF) Shawn Marion
    F) Michael Beasley
    C) Andrea Bargnani
    C) Chris Kaman
    Util) Jameer Nelson
    Util) Ben Gordon
    Bench) Marreese Speights
    Bench) Charlie Villanueva
    Bench) Matt Barnes

  62. HomeG, i'd rather see u keep rondo only because his role with the c's will grow next year. hes a great keeper and only going to get better. maybe try somethin like kidd n salmons for joe j an nene?

  63. Thief, who would you trust more for a better and more consistent remaining part of the season - Stephen Curry or Ersan Ilyasova?

    ReplyDelete
  64. what do i do with speights?? he's been getting no minutes and hasnt been producing in anything since his first two games when he got back. shud i drop him and pick up barnes? idk what to do with him. or shud i drop battier, hinrich, or juwan howard for barnes. wat do u think?

so basically two questions. what do i do with speights and who do i drop for barnes.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Christo, def Curry.

Lucky, I'd drop Juwan and hang onto Speights til the trade deadline passes if you can.

  68. What's up Thief,

I have another question about a trade that I have been offered. My Aldridge for his Brandon Jennings straight up. Now I'm not fascinated by this offer since I wanted Kevin love & Jennings from him initally. This is not a definite steal.

However, KG just went down for this guy and he figures he can cash in with Aldridge by eyeing my weakness in Asts & stls.

    My Sauce:
    15.83pts
    5.40 rebs
    3.06 asts
    .900 stls
    1.09 3pts
    .60 blks

    My starters:
    Dirk
    Joe Johnson
    Frye
    Aldridge
    Brook Lopez
    Mayo
    Tony Parker
    Thompson
    Gallinari
    Nelson
    Ariza

    Bench:
    Bibby
    Varejao
    Hibbert

    His team:
    Jennings
    KG
    K Love
    Hawes
    VC
    Dunleavy
    Marion
    Taj Gibson
    Durant
    Perkins
    Monta Ellis
    Ray Allen
    Casspi

    10-man H2H regular cats(including 3pt%,FTM,FT%,orebs, drebs,TO, Fouls,)

Should I really ink this deal or try to include KG or shoot for his Monta Ellis for Aldridge? I'm really gotta theive on this offer here.

    Thanks again for the advice!

  69. Hey Thief, this latest post is kind of crazy for me because as you know, I have been offered KG for my Baron Davis. Also, I have been looking at possibly trading for Stoudemire, I already own CP3, and right now Calderon was just dropped on waivers by the owner of KG. I had my eye on Gerald Wallace for B. Davis, but are you saying the numbers show I would be better off going for KG? Should I make a play for Stouemire or Calderon? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  70. naw, i think KG and GW are pretty even. However i would def grab Calderon

    ReplyDelete
  71. My problem with grabbing Calderon is that I would have to make room for him. My team again is:

    Antawn Jamison
    Kevin Martin
    Baron Davis
    Chris Paul
    Eric Gordon
    Allen Iverson
    Kevin Love
    David West
    Chauncey Billups
    Andrew Bynum
    Caron Butler
    Anthony Randolph
    Charlie Villanueva

Assuming I give up B. Davis for KG or GWall, I still need to make room. It's possible I could throw in another player with BD to sweeten the deal for GWall and then I would have room for Calderon. If so who should I throw in? It's still possible I can get GWall straight up for BD. If I do get him straight up, then where could Calderon fit in? To be honest, I'm not liking KG too much right now as I just read he might not be back for this coming week. I'm really tired of dealing with injuries and I still have to wait on Billups, and K-Mart.
