Everyone is always trying to improve their email opt-in rate, right. I found some of Michael Forey's points interesting. However, I wonder about one-that is pop up boxes on your website. I know that it does work-as long as you have a close button (minimal intrusiveness is acceptable). But when the close button does not close the pop-up, or the pop-up will not go away-I find it intrusive and will instantly click away.
There is also another issue-and that is, how many people have their internet software set up to stop pop-ups? Many may not get through. Just my thoughts. But...if you are promoting an electronic product the pop-up box is essential and his advice should be followed when collecting names.
But I do find the other tips to be creative, and or informative.
How to Up Your Email Opt-In Rate by 300%
By Michael A. Forey
Email marketing is vital to internet marketing. Remember most online profits are made on the back end. The more emails you can capture, the better. Once you have the names and emails, you can turn random web surfers into loyal serous customers.
Following these tips you will be able to increase your opt-in rates by several hundred percent!
First, you need to add a pop up box to your website. Your prospects should be met with a pop up box that offers them something of value for free if they subscribe. Although it is widely believed that people hate pop-up boxes, it is proven they work. Keep in mind they chose to come to your site and are target traffic. They are generally interested in the topic you are promoting. They are going to your site with the intention of acquiring information related to your niche. You are offering them free information related to what they are looking for.
The second tip is including a good related offer in the opt-in form. Remember the prospect came to your site looking for information on a niche, you should provide this in new and exciting ways. Newsletter and drab information no longer attract prospects. You should offer a free: video, audio, special report, webinars, e-course or even a contest. You need to be creative. Your offer needs to be enticing enough for people to give their email address.
Offer your visitors something they can't refuse and your opt-in rate will soar.
Keep your form simple and only ask for first name and email. Many times you see forms request first and last name, for many people giving their last name seems a little too dangerous and suspicious. Keep in mind identity theft is a growing concern. You should remember you are a total stranger at this point. You really don't need any additional information to get started.
You should always include a privacy policy or privacy statement. This simply will put many worries to rest. Your prospects don't want to get a ton of spam email. Again, they are a stranger and every time they give their email there is a change they will get on a spam list. You should include a small statement at the bottom of you pop-up box that says, "I will never share your personal information with anyone. Click here for my Privacy Policy". This will resolve many reservations prospects will have to signing up for your list.
