Is Google facing Hacking Threat?

The big G seems to have landed under trouble. My newspaper daily, Times Of India reported that Picasa, Gmail, Blogger and the search engine itself are vulnerable.Indian Computer Emergency Response team has warned users against a virus called "googbot"

It has been observed that a mass-mailing worm named Googbot is circulating in the wild. It propagates by exploiting software vulnerabilities.

The worm has its own SMTP engine to send mass e-mails. It harvests the e-mail addresses from the infected system and sends malicious e-mails to the collected addresses. The e-mail body contains a malicious link which entice the users to click upon using social engineering technique.

The e-mail contains the following :

Subject : (any of the following)

  • Someone has sent you a Private Message!
  • You have just recieved a NEW message!
  • You have (1) NEW messages!

Body : (any of the following)

  • You have just recieved a new Google Message!
  • You can view your message here: http://www.google.com/gmsgid=4289472
  • Note: If you do not already have Google Message Viewer installed, you will be prompted to install it.
Sounds interesting doesn't it? But they have a valid reason .I use Gmail,Blogger and Adsense daily and if these services are hacked, I'm gone!
And to add Google AdSense website has gone down at around 10:30am GMT today.Neither the AdSense blog nor the Official Google Blog has any detail of it

Thanks Amit for a great post on How to backup your blogger blog which has helped me to deal with this situation

SCA Diagram stencil for Visio

A visual representation of an SCA composite is a crucial part of composite documentation. Many diagrams are based on section 1.2.1 Diagram used to Represent SCA Artifacts in the SCA Assembly Model Specification. Also worth checking out is a simple, but very useful, description of SCA parts from the Tuscany project.

Since I could not find one, after about 10 minutes of looking, I decided to put together a Visio stencil for SCA composite diagrams which you are free to use. Use the basic Visio connectors to provide links between services, components, references etc. Obviously you can add more service and references to components or composites as you require.

As usual, feedback is welcome, so let me know what you think and if there are any improvements you would suggest.

“How market a product or service using blogs as a marketing tool”

Marketing a new product or service and increasing the available market for existing product need time, money, skills and many more resources. Some of existing marketing tools such as electronic & printed media advertisements are very costly methods. Some time it is not suitable for products which are being targeted narrow community. World Wide Web is one of leading network which allow global to become a small community. This is a place where most of people gather to search information on entertainment, education, news and many of their other interests. So joining with World Wide Web is good method to let people to know about our products or services. The interface is to join our products or services to World Wide Web is a web site. It comparatively low cost method when we consider about the time factor & geographical coverage. A web site which is dedicated to one subject is visited by people who seek & interest on that subject.

Web Logs in short terms “blogs” is one kind of web site which is being used by many people to share news, comments, opinions, personal thoughts … etc. Blog is a web site which is updated frequently in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. People will see latest updates first and because of the continuity in posting on the site people like to trust the latest information on blogs.

Usually people search their interests by entering queries to their favorite search engine. These search engines show relevant web sites using their large database which is developed using web crawler. These search engines track our web site by sending their web crawler to read our meta tags & contents. Because of daily or frequently updating nature of blogs, web crawlers visit blogs very frequently & index blogs with higher rank. So putting information on our product or service in blogs is one of best way to inform relevant & interested communities very quickly. Our product or service details will reach right people at right time with an effectively & rapidly. I have practically experienced this while working with my web log (http://cpelanka.blogspot.com). It is frequently visited by web crawlers & let search engine users to find my articles very easily.

With the ever increasing number of blogs over internet now there are dedicated search engines for blogs only. This is also an advantage to bloggers to spread their information over the world. Those blog search engine allow users to rate, favorite and recommend blogs. This will also increase our blogs’ position over internet blogsphere.

The other importance with blogs is many people favorites & subscribes their interested web logs. Then our post will reach to their reader application or email box with no time. I have seen some professional blogs which are subscribed by near 12000 people. (Ex. http://labnol.blogspot.com/). There are blogs communities which are daily visited by many users. We can join our blogs with those communities which allow blogs community members to reach our updated information collection on new products or services. The important thing is blog readers spent more time over internet rather than other users. So blog readers will spend more time on our information about new products or services.

There are free or low cost blogging tools such as “wordpress”, “blogger” … etc. With these tools we can develop fantastic web logs about our products and services. We can use their available template or our own template. There are many venders who sell attractive blog template and we can buy them if we do not have time to invest on developing template. When we work with above mentioned blogging tools we can easily redirect that blog to our own domain name. It provide smart interface to set up custom domains to the blogs. Wordpress allow blog writers to develop their very similar to normal web site with many pages. With little additional cost we can customize our blogs in professional way. These days most of web hosting services allow hosting blogs. With these services we can publish our blogs in our own way.

Using blogs we can develop strong voice over our products & services. Readers can put their comments on our posts, so blogger will able to identify readers’ thoughts very easily. Other readers also have a chance to expose others feeling on our products and services. We can put element on blogs to collect polls on readers and gather views of readers very quickly.

I am very confident on blogs as a good marketing tool. It can be developed with minimum cost and comparatively less effort. But it is very powerful tool which is quickly indexed and ranked by most of search engines. It has greater potential to be a very effective marketing tool. Some of people have already explored this great potential and soon others will also follow.

MLM is not Affiliate Marketing-Really?

I thought I would include this information about MLM and Pyramid-just so you have an idea of the difference, and to prevent you from –well, being side-swiped into a pyramid deal. I have always had to remind myself that when a good deal comes along, you have to say to yourself, “Is this too good to be true?” And if you hear yourself answer – “Yeah!” Then forget it-something may definitely not be working in your favor. The one thing that drives many people forward with MLM is the hype and the money possibilities. But always, always look at the total picture and what they have to offer, and what you have to do and give to gain their claim to "easy money".

And I should emphasize, that there are some legitimate MLM programs, as a matter of fact, I know some one in my area who partakes in the party promotions. She does have to work rather hard- and getting new people is always a challenge.

MLM or Pyramid-What’s the difference?

First let me say MLM is not Affiliate Marketing. Sure you sign up for the program. They even give you a nice website and possibility some free leads to help you promote their products. So what is MLM-the good and bad.

What is MLM

MLM stands for Multi-Level Marketing. It is the selling of products by using independent distributors, who in turn, try to recruit others on their downline.
(downline defined: people that are below you)

As a distributor, you must persuade 5, 6, or 10 people that the product you are selling is great. Thus, getting them in your downline. Though MLM is legal, it does skirt within the gray areas of the law. So knowing the difference between a legitimate MLM program and a pyramid scheme is important.

Legitimate MLM offers:

1. An income can be earned solely on the sale of services or products.
2. Offers commission from people under you
3. New people that come aboard may have to pay for their own training, training material and may have to buy a significant amount of products in the MLM program to stay active.
4. MLM follows the 70% rule. You have to sell 70% of the inventory you purchased before buying more. This prevents inventory loading-and the claiming of additional bonuses.

So, when does the MLM begin to look like a pyramid scheme?

When does MLM become a pyramid scheme?

MLM slides into a pyramid scheme when the salespeople become more concerned with recruiting a downline; or buying more product than they will ever sell, just to get the bonuses or to reach the next level. Here are some factors to consider before outlaying a good sum of money and your time.

1. If the product is so good, why aren’t they selling it through the traditional marketing system?
2. Why is it okay to have no experience? And you will hear: “Anybody can make this work!” It’s an opportunity of a lifetime!” (Boy, is that an understatement to losing your money).
3. Sales people – the more sales people there are, the quicker the saturation of the product. What’s left? With any product, over time there has to be at least partial saturation.
4. Who’s making the money?
5. Are they selling you’re a dream of “easy money”? With this one, you will have to step back, stop salivating at the thought of big bucks-and take a good hard look at what they are saying.
6. Are they more interested in having you get people in your downline.
7. They don’t put a threshold on the ratio of how many products you buy to the the number of products you sell.
8. If you get a bad taste in your mouth or a gnawing feeling in the pit of your stomach, that may be your first unconscious clue that maybe something is not quite right with this opportunity.

Yes, MLM programs or party planning programs are legal and sustainable- but the legality of these programs hit the gray area of the law. The biggest question you have to ask yourself is this, “What will be my end benefit?” And if you step back and look objectively at your situation, and if all your hard work is only benefiting the people above you, then it might be a pyramid.

How MLM and Affiliate Marketing 2-Tier Is Different

Some affiliate programs give you two ways to earn a commission: 1) if a customer buys the actual product or service; and 2) through the promotion of the business’s affiliate program to others. The additional income is a small residual income from sales made by your downline, and I might add, it doesn’t cut into the commission that is being made by your affiliates. “Well, this is just like MLM,” you say. No, not really. Why?

1) You don’t have to encourage others to join their affiliate program-it is your option to choose to do so.
2) You don’t have to buy the product-just sell it.

However, if you elect to encourage others to join their affiliate program, I would suggest that you make sure that the program pays. If they pay you on time without question, then and only then promote the 2-tier program. This helps to keep your creditability intact, and prevent others from feeling your pain of loss income. To conclude, MLM is not an affiliate program. However, MLM can be either a legitimate undertaking or a pyramid. That is where you need to know the difference, as well as, what you want in a home business.
