A new Intel hexacore Xeon could make its way to Mac Pro within the next three weeks, according to HardMac.
The name of this hexacore CPU is the Core i7-980X. Another cheaper (and slower) model should also be available, called the Core i7-970. The new CPU is expected to replace the current 32 nm engraved Quad Core Xeon.
HardMac has learned from different sources that this CPU will become available in March. Apple often is able to obtain a small window of exclusivity on such CPUs leading the site to expect a new Mac Pro within three weeks time.
Its thought that the much anticipated Mac edition of the Radeon HD 5870 will be released alongside the updated Mac Pro.
