Apple Sells Over One Million iPhone 3G S Models

Apple today announced that it has sold over one million iPhone 3GS models through Sunday, June 21, the third day after its launch. In addition, six million customers have downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software in the first five days since its release.

“Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “With over 50,000 applications available from Apple’s revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever.”

It took Apple about 2 and a half months to sell 1 million of the first iPhone. Selling 1 million in 3 days is a remarkable achievement.

Apple Renames iPhone 3G S to iPhone 3GS

Apple has begun changing all references to the name of the new iPhone from 'iPhone 3G S' to 'iPhone 3GS', according to a TidBits article.

I was ecstatic to see this morning that not only had Apple started following my construction in the press release announcing the iPhone 3GS's excellent initial sales, but that the company had also retroactively edited the press release announcing the iPhone 3GS to avoid the spaced-out name. For a few hours, that initial release's headline link on the main Apple PR page still used the old name, but I now see that even that headline has been fixed.

Its unclear whether this change will improve search results for the new device. It will however make things a bit easier for bloggers.

ECID field, downgrades no DICE

Apple added a new piece of security to the iPhone 3GS. I was sending the applelogo to the phone and it kept giving me "Memory Image Not Valid". Puzzled, since I knew iTunes sent this no problem, I dumped the USB communication. Seen that new thing, "Verifying iPhone restore with Apple"? It adds another tag to the img3 file inside the sig checked area, called ECID, which contains a unique id for the phone. INSIDE THE SIG CHECKED AREA. Then the server resigns and sends you a new signature. Basically it generates a custom Img3 which only works on your specific phone.

This is bad news... They almost surely won't authorize downgrades on new phones. They might not even authorize downgrades on older phones. Get a usb dump of a restore to 7A341 if you ever want to go back(which you may need to use exploits). Unless of course it's broken deeply at the hardware level. Then lol @ Apple.

Adsense Changes-Different Font and Font Sizes Now Available

Here's a quick note to a new change that Adsense is now allowing publishers to use.

If you have been wanting to have different font and font sizes for your blog or website, you're in luck. Adsense, after their own initial experimenting, has found that changes in font and font sizes does affect revenue. Thus, you are now allowed to change font and font sizes for your ads within your website or blog.

What's available?
For font sizes you'll be able to choose between: Small, Medium and Large, with font styles of Arial, Times, Verdana.

You will notice that the current default setting for your Google ads are typically set to small, but from a little experimenting they found that medium did perform better than the small. Thus, medium will soon become the new default.

If you are wanting to play around with your ads, you'll need to keep the following information handy:

When creating new ad units you can now choose:

1. the default font size
2. your new account-wide font size
3. Or a separate size


Updating existing ad units

To change existing ad units you will need to visit the "Manage Ads" page under the Adsense Setup tab.

Note: any font size change that you make to an individual ad unit will remain in place EVEN if you change your account-wide default in the future.
