Getting A Website-Big Piece of the Puzzle to Getting Online

When you first think about starting a business online, many people stay in the wishing mode because they are unsure of where or how to start. Well, the first phase is getting an idea, and the second phase is getting a website. Which, of course, means you need to build yourself a website, or if you are rich, have someone build it for you.

Anyway, the website and all it's component parts, if you are new to the game, can be very confusing. You're a babe in the woods, so to speak. That's where I was when I first started. I knew strictly the basics: Such as: What is a website?

I did not know that you had to buy your domain separately (sometimes) from your web hosting service, or what to look for in a web hosting service. Gee, there's a lot of them out there. Hopfully, for those starting out, I can give you some information that will help you get off the fence - so you too can start your own online business.

Getting A Website-What Do I Need?
By Vickie J. Scanlon

When I started, the lines were blurred to whether you needed a website or not. Some affiliate companies created web pages that you could use without creating your own website. However, Google has changed that – Duplicate content.

Duplicate Content Defined

Duplicate Content - as defined by Google "substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar."

So what are the alternatives? Create a website or a blog. If you want a long-term presence I would first go with a website. But if you are not sure if your interest has an audience, maybe a blog can be your starting point.

Let’s assume you want a website. If this is the case, you will need to purchase a website and a domain (If you purchase a web hosting package sometimes you get the domain free, either for life or for the first year, it depends upon the web hosting service). But before I go any further, let me define website and domain, so you understand the difference.

Website – is the entire compilation of web pages, images, sound, video that appear to be put under one address on the Internet.

Domain – is your identifier, your address on the Internet where people will find your website. The text name must be unique and should identify your site, for all who visit.

Yes, you need both. If you are lucky, you can get a domain for free for life or some web hosting services offers something unique, like SEO submission or tools to create ezines, logos, etc. For a quick list of some of the minimum requirements a web host should offer, you can go to my web page Website Information. Though not exhaustive, it will give you a start point.

The needs and wants are different for individuals, sole proprietors and companies, so you can imagine, or already know how difficult it is to decide which web hosting service to go with. So how do you get started?

Webhosting Service-Things To Consider

Before you go shopping for a web hosting service you should have done a little homework. Things to consider:

1. The purpose of your website
2. Average amount of money you want to spend for the web hosting service. (In most cases, if you’re a sole proprietor, cost is at the top of the list).
3. What services does your Webhosting service need to provide to compliment your business: shopping cart, php, WYSIWYG software.
4. What software do they support
5. Support after the initial install.

My first advice, don’t go with the free web hosting service. With the free service you will have a website-but they will use ads on your website to pay for those free services. This takes away from the professionalism of the site and revenue from you.

Now that you have everything etched out in your mind or on paper, do some research. Make a list of the different web hosting services you want to consider, keeping in mind the standard features they offer on their different packages, and the price range of their packages.

And then, go to the list of what you may need in the future. You may not need to incorporate them into your cost now, but it’s nice to know that need be, they can be made available to you.

To conclude, look around, read the testimonials, make your comparisons. And before you put down your hard earned cash send them an email or call them. Why? It’s always wise to find out whom you will be working with on a daily basis. And, most importantly, there is no need to find out after the fact that they lack knowledge, experience or could care less about your problem. Yeah, I’m talking about customer service.

Referral Ads Tweaking By Adsense

Adsense is doing some tweaking on their Referral Ads- this will cost you some money in the short run. They are trying to increase the value and quality of the referral network for both publisher and advertiser. What does that mean for the advertiser and publisher?

Publishers - you may see earnings that you receive from the ad you place on your site to be less than the maximum referral value displayed for that ad. The Adsense system will be putting a restriction on the referral clicks to monitor the click and conversion data to make sure the clicks are valid. Once the validation process is complete than you will again, be receiving the full amount on your referral ads.

How long will it take, it will be different for each site because each publisher's site activity is different. They feel that the majority of the people will be minimally affected by the validation process.

Advertisers - advertisers will only be charged the maximum referral value once a publisher has completed the validation period.

For those new to Google Adsense let me enlighten you to Referral Ads.

Referral ads is another form of advertising that is being offered by Google Adsense. The Referral ads are paid on a conversion basis; a conversion is considered a specific action defined by the advertiser. That action might be a sale, a clickthrough to a specific page on an advertiser site, or an online sign-up for a promotion. With referral ads, you can encourage people to click on these ads without penalty. This is for referral ads only.

Anything new?

Quite a few things have been happening in the blogosphere.I'll just sum them up.

Today's Blog Action Day when bloggers write to promote environment. My contribution is today I wrote a poem on a chart for my class soft board on Nature title "leisure" by William Henry Davies. Its a good one.

AdSense team has blogged about a quality control over the inventory by placing a restriction for publishers monetizing Displaying non-Google referrals. In this case, you'll just earn a little less than the price you get for a successful conversion for the first few times, after which you'll earn normally. If you don't display Google AdSense referral 2.0 ads, its out of your business. This happened just a few hours after I received my first successful conversion :)

Webtalks has been experiencing a poor posting frequency over th past few days. The reason is here.I was busy with the launch of another Tech Blog, And now I'm proud to announce that we just launched the Ashtech Blog (Go grab the RSS).Reason, Wordpress is a much better blogging platform for tech-savvy bloggers like me.While Webtalks will continue its normal routine on the same *.blogspot subdomain , I will be joined by my classmate, Harshyt Goel at the Ashtech Blog.Harhsyt has got some writing skills. He previously used to blog at the Review Blog.Check out the Blog now!

Google Pagerank gave a so called teaser trailer on 13 October. All sites reporting changes have got a low pagerank than their previous ones while some are complaining about their non-involvement in link business.Webtalks remained unaffected with this partial update. It looks like Google are really after it.Some folks are saying about a new algorithm change, When I searched for it, I concluded it was the Orion algorithm which Google bought a 17 months before from an Australian Scholar.Going by the data, I think the Quarter 4 export should happen by the end of October but this time its not going to be exciting as Google have tested our patience upto an extent from where no excitement about the next export is left. This teaser update was a big enough news to get a Sticky Post on DP forums.

Remember Top 100 Make Money Online list by 45n5.com? Jason Blanton a has made a list of feeds of all top 100 blogs right in one post.It must have been a painful task. You can also check out The Webtalks feed there somewhere in the middle.Advertisers maybe this is a good opportunity for you.

Make Money Online with Tnx

With Google reducing pagerank of sites selling links (Eg .Stanford Daily) the Link business has a got a big threat from it. If you don’t know what I am talking about, Google is strictly against paid links or in Google terms “selling PR” .Probably, this is the reason why the Pagerank export hasn’t happened for over a five months now. But the subject of our today’s post is about another Web service called TNX which lets advertisers buy links and thus improve search engine rankings and publisher generate revenue from his site by selling links, but in a different manner with a mission to
  • Assist website owners in attracting targeted visitors and clients from search engines and relevant websites.
  • Reduce the dependence on search engines.
  • Improve quality of the search results for those websites that join TNX system.
  • Increase the income of every webmaster who joins TNX system.
    The working
TNX combines the benefits of Contextual Advertising, Text Link Brokers and Relevant Exchange of permanent non-reciprocal text links.
It’s a bit easy to speak these lines but the folks at Tnx have done their best to give the desired results. Search Engines like Google want high quality relevant back links for higher Search engine ratings.
TNX allowes publishers to sell links from each page on their website, and for advertisers it allowes to buy millions of links from other sites in few clicks. TNX is a convenient tool that allowes publishers and advertisers to save time, efforts and money: in just a few minutes you can have thousands of links from hundreds of high quality relevant sites linking to yours.

All links are direct, they are located on main pages and inside pages that are also very important. Ads are displayed mostly on well-noticeable spots so they can attract visitors.
The system can be used to promote main page of the advertiser's site as well as inside pages.
Site publishers can not only use TNX.net to earn money, they can also use it to promote own websites by taking advantage of our system as an advertiser (balance in the system is unified).

The point system
TNX is probably the first monetizing web site using the point system. Its a very complex , so I tried sorting out a bit.
If you are an advertiser, you can buy 20,000 points with 20$ (1,000points = 1$)
With these 20,000 points you can buy static links for a month on (subject to availability)
- 20 000 different PR0 pages from different websites (1point/link)
- 400 different PR1 pages from different websites (50points/link)
- 200 different PR2 pages from different websites (100 points/link)
- 100 different PR3 pages from different websites (200points/link)
- 40 different PR4 pages from different websites (500points/link)
- 20 different PR5 pages from different websites (1,000points/link)

Lets take, you have a got a PR 3 blog and Want to sell 5 of its links. Selling it directly to advertisers would require a lot of effort and luck too.Instead, you will get 1000 points /month in your account . Then you have got a choice, buy targeted links from other sites with the points you earned or sell the points to Tnx itself. The price for 1000 points is 0.63 $ currently but it has an weekly inflation of 2 % .So far you earned only 0.63 $ for the links but here, the key lies here:

The Bonuses
For whatever site you sign up and get approved, you’ll get 7000 points as a bonus if you signup now. Now, head off to the DP forums post, paste your ID and get 2,000 more points in your account.Note:Offer for a limited period.

Which makes the tally:1,000 + 7,000 + 2,000 = 10,000 points = 6.3 $
An Impressive 6.3 dollars by no extra efforts

A newly launched affiliate program is just as interesting...
When you bring a new webmaster to the system, you will receive 13.3% of all "TNX-points", he/she will earn in the future (a reward for referring an advertiser is also available). This amounts to almost half of the system's commission! Interest is paid for the lifetime.

Example: When you refer a webmaster to TNX and advertiser pays 100 TNX-Points for a link on your referral's website, your referral (webmaster) gets 75 points and you get 10 points which is 13.3% of his income. No bans , no restrictions, No over changes makes this program a stand out.Text Link Ads referral is a high paying one but how many advertisers/publishers get approved in it to bring you the commission? For me, 1 out of 100* referrals of Text Link Ads gets approved.Google AdSense has some restrictions over promoting the referral products. This program has much scope from the referral point of view for bloggers which doesn't has a wide influential audience.

Its good that they have worked on the minimum site requirements page so that Webmasters can come to know how to increase their chances of getting approved.

In addition to the criteria (number of visitors, PR) we also look at the following:

- site’s idea. There is a huge number of sites in the Internet, and each of them was created for a certain purpose. We want the sites participating in our network to be created for people and not for search bots.

- design, navigation simplicity. We would rather accept a site with plain white background without any graphics rather than a site with irritating composition of sharp colors, blinking banners and dozens of buttons on pages.

- actual and unique content – is the main criteria for an Internet project’s success. Without it the site will become invisible for search engines that might decide that it’s just a mirror of another site.

- domain name. The best names are resonant and short, easily rememberable. We prefer second level domains COM, NET etc.

- site’s theme. We do not welcome entertainment-erotic sites, sites about earnings, pyramids, etc.

- lack of forbidden methods of promotion of site in search engines (for example, link bank, because search engines can delete such sites at any time as soon as they find a violation).

Security:This site wins it here.Google is strictly against paid reviews, and if you perform a quick site search on Google with ReviewMe.com for lets take John Chow Dot Com, you'll see the inventory right in the search results.Once you are caught by a Googler, you are the next John chow.TNX doesn't reveal all details of the link selling site to the advertisers , so now the Webmasters can sleep freely

Tip for TNX owners:Give ready made widgets that are compatible with most of the blogging platforms as of current Php, only supported by Wordpress is mandatory.

Conclusion:TNX system has tried to innovate the Link Buying /Selling market.A service newly launched and has got 27,646 users already. If you want to earn some bucks by selling links, are lazy, fear of Google, don't get direct advertisers then TNX is the right choice for your blog

Looking For A Niche

Finding a niche is no easy matter. Some people look for a high paying niche- but they have no passion. Now, the only way these people can keep their website or blog alive is if the high paying niche is complimenting their single passion-money. And the money is coming in. Which is a nice thought, I must admit. If you can maintain a business on a subject matter that you could care less about and make a lot of money off of it-I must congratulate you. It's hard to do. I tried to create a different blog on a different subject matter-the subject matter-I could care less about. I killed the blog, because I knew that I just couldn't muster up the thought matter even to write about it.

So, don't get discouraged if a niche market idea doesn't float into your brain right away. Take your time, make a list of all the things you do, and the things you like to do, and the things you would like to do. You get my meaning?

So, is finding a niche important? Yes. In my article, I try to give you some ideas about finding a niche and doing the research. It's important-that is-the research is. My article will explain why.

Finding Your Niche

By Vickie J. Scanlon

If you want to get into Affiliate Marketing you will need to find a niche. And finding a niche can be a heavy burden. Before I give you some thoughts on finding your niche and what to consider, let’s first define it.

A Niche Defined

A niche market is a market that is targeted not for the majority of the population, but for a subset of the population. Metaphorically speaking - it is one egg in your basket of many eggs. Now if you can find a niche market that isn't being met by a potential market, you can see a profit.

For the small person the niche market is ideal. Why? These ventures are not pursued aggressively by large business because of a lack of interest or a lack of awareness.

What's the key to the niche business? Grabbing a niche that is not already owned by an established company or person. Example of a niche: Small Business Market, Home Office Market, you get the idea-as you can realize from looking at these two examples – additional drilling down to a more targeted market is possible.

Finding a Niche

1. What are your interests? This is where a lot of soul searching will have to come into play – along with whether it is a passion. If it is not a passion, you may have a problem sustaining your interest. Your
passion can be a hobby, an interest you pursue on your day off, or an extension of your 9 to 5 job. (Sometimes your hobby can be rather limited, thus, not giving you enough material to write about over a long period of time-that’s why you need to research your topic)

2. Does, or can your interest, be easily meshed with different Affiliate Programs.

3. Research your niche: Is there a need that is not being met by the others that you will be competing with. You can do varied searches in Google, Yahoo and MSN to get the flavor of what is out there. Look over their websites, ads, etc. to get an idea of where you can position yourself.

Let me elaborate on point 3. I will begin by saying, you need to do research, but that does not mean copying what you find and using it to build your website. That is definitely not your own voice, but another. Yes, for those new to online marketing, the Internet is a big place, but copying without permission is stealing. You need to use your own voice. Nothing can be more aggravating, irritating and lawyer ridden then copying a website or content (where the author has not given you permission to copy).

Don’t think they can find you? Think again. If they are polite, they will ask you first to take down the offending pages, in a not so nice email. And if you choose to ignore their email, expect to be talking to their lawyers. Sadly, you may have unknowingly ended your online career even before it began.

Once you have found your niche, did your research and you know your niche has a ready-market; it’s time to start setting up your Affiliate Plan to getting online.

Note: If you find no competition, that could be a good sign or a bad sign: 1) it could mean others have tried and failed to reach the proposed market; or 2) your would-be competitors haven’t found the niche yet. Test market.

To conclude, before putting all your eggs in one basket, do your research before moving forward. It can save you a lot of time and money.
